Yoga for snowboarders complements your training with exercises for leg strength, balance and torso mobility. On a snowboard, you need to shift your weight between your legs and stay steady through turns. Squats, torso rotations and balancing poses give you a chance to work on these movements on the mat.
The exercises in this 90-minute class include “Kriya: Standing Forward Bend – Plank”, “Standing Forward Bend with Bent Leg Raised” and “Warrior 3 Pose”. In Warrior III, you'll balance on one leg and pay attention to the position of your pelvis. Towards the end of the class, you'll do the breathing practice “Pranayama in Diamond Pose”. The class ends with time to rest lying down.
Choose the 90-minute class on a day when that level of effort feels manageable and fits with your other training.
In squats and balancing poses, pay attention to your feet, knees, and how you distribute your weight. Before snowboarding, choose a level of effort that leaves your legs fresh.
