Yoga for swimmers complements your swimming training with exercises for shoulder and back mobility and for leg and core strength. Being able to move your shoulders freely is important for your stroke, while your abdominal and back muscles help you maintain your body position in the water. Stretches are combined with strengthening poses.
In this 90-minute class, you'll practice “Supported Warrior 3 Pose”, “Reclining Upward Arm Stretch” and “Plow Pose with Hands Gripping the Feet”. In Warrior III, you'll balance on one leg and pay attention to the position of your pelvis. Toward the end, you'll practice the breathing exercise “Alternate Nostril Breathing Pranayama”. You'll finish by lying down to rest.
Choose the 90-minute class on a day when that level of effort feels manageable and fits with your other training.
Choose your level of effort with your swimming workouts and any accumulated fatigue in mind. If your arms are already tired from swimming, keep shoulder movements within a smaller range.
